How to set shipping fees based on weight for the Order Portal?

Shipping fees can vary significantly depending on your products’ weight, size, and destination. At Orderchamp, we want your shipping settings to be as flexible as possible. That’s why you can now set shipping rates based on the total weight of an order in your Order Portal.

How It Works

With weight-based shipping:

• The total shipping cost is calculated based on the combined weight of all products in an order.
• The system uses the weight you have set for each product.
• If you want, you can enter a different shipping weight for each product to use specifically for shipping calculations (e.g. for volumetric weight).

Combining Weight-Based Rates with Other Fees

Weight-based shipping is an additional option:

• You can still set shipping rates per order or per product unit.
• If both are active, these costs will be combined.

Create Country-Specific Weight Groups

You can create different weight-based groups to apply specific cost structures per country or region.

In each group, you can define:

• One or more weight thresholds
• A shipping cost for each threshold

Example:

• 0 to 0.99 kg: €0 (free shipping for very light orders)
• 1 to 14.99 kg: €10
• 15 kg and above: €20

Important: Only the highest applicable threshold is charged — for example, an order weighing 16 kg will cost €20, not €10 plus €20.

You can use decimals in weights if needed. For example, 1.25 kg equals 1250 grams.

Using the Shipping Weight Field

By default, the product’s weight is used for shipping cost calculations.

• To use a different weight for shipping (e.g. volumetric weight), fill in the Shipping Weight field on the product.
• If you want to exclude a product from weight-based shipping (for example, if it already has a per-product fee), set its shipping weight to 0. It will then not contribute to the total shipping weight, while the actual weight stays unchanged.

What Retailers See

• Retailers will see the total shipping cost in their cart at checkout.
• This total includes all per-order fees, per-product fees, and weight-based shipping fees.
• On the product page, no specific shipping cost is shown because the final cost depends on the complete order weight and thresholds.

In the future, we plan to add an overview of your shipping thresholds for retailers to make shipping costs even more transparent.
